New Goodies

Morning all I have been enjoying myself making a new baby quilt, I wanted to keep the look simple and uncluttered and suitable for either a boy or girl. With this in mind and longing for some blue sky and sunshine I came up with this fresh and crisp palette. My stash is a little less now and I have extra brownie points for not buying any new fabric. Are you stash busting? Onto other sewing, I am trying to make some time for making my kids some much needed summer attire on this weeks list 2 pairs of denim shorts and 2 dresses. I don't know if I will get them all finished by the end of the week but I will at least be some way to completing them. What's on your todo list this week?

Sun Hat, Fun Hats.

Hi everyone how has your week been so far? I have been a busy little bee getting on with a tone of work. I have a new shop on board and have many goodies to make for them. I also have a little fair to organise myself for ( I know I said I was cutting back on fairs ) But this one is local to me and I love the venue.
One of the things I have been sewing this week is hats well lots of hats really for boys and girls in lots of different style and now I need you help can you tell me what type of hat you like your kids to wear for the summer. Bucket hats, newsboy caps or prairie bonnets?.

Lets just hope that the sun comes out and stays out so they can wear them.
Happy Thursday.

A Great Week

Hello all another week has passed in a haze of activity.
Our sweetcorn which we planted last Sunday is beginning to produce little shoots. I used a window propagator and it seems to be doing the trick. The weather has been rubbish, cold and lots of showers so no washing was dried outside this week I did try. I have visited the allotment only once since last Saturday and even then I got drenched and just came home. Please mr sunshine come back.
My little sewing business touch wood is keeping me very busy. I finished my quilted christmas stocking order for a shop in Spain this week. I managed to make an extra 5 cat in the hat stockings which have now all been sold thanks for your interest. Other sewing included a large order of crayon wallets, 2 lunch bags,a few bamboo bibs and burp cloths, some facial pads, zipper purses and some large art wallets. I think thats everything. I am so encouraged by the steady stream of orders that I am getting. I did worry that things might slow up after Christmas but I was wrong I keep pinching myself.
I have been stock taking and have discovered that I have a number of items now listed in the shop which are the last ones of that style so I think I feel a fabric order coming on. Exciting and time consuming.
Hope you all have a great weekend.

Keeping Chickens ???????????

Good morning all hope you have not overdosed on chocolate yet. I have the other kind of eggs on my mind at the moment. We are considering keeping 2-4 chickens in our back garden. We like the idea of fresh free range eggs I bake an awful lot. But I have no experience of keeping chickens so I am looking for your input and advice. We have a few questions so please give me your experiences.

How much time is involved in looking after chickens?
What foods do they eat?
How many eggs should we get from 2-4 hens?
Which breeds are best for laying eggs?
Where do we buy chickens from?
Where do we get chicken feed?
Do you save money on eggs raising you own chickens?
And any other things that I am sure to have missed out.

Thanks so much in advance

Wedding Favours

Good morning all I hope you are all enjoying the start of the bank holiday weekend. I have been juggling all week between Mummy duties and sewing orders. I can tell you I have found it quiet a tiring experience particularly as sewing orders have been steadily coming in ( this is good ) Each time I think I must write a little post about it something else crops up. So at long last here I am and I have a lovely photo to show you. A custom order of 13 personalised crayon wallets each one with the recipients name hand stitched onto a cute little label. This order was a first for Made by Mum, I have made favours for birthdays, baby showers etc but never a wedding. I think its such a fabulous way to make the children feel important and is a lovely keep sake of the special day. Oh and not forgetting occupied during the speeches.
So here they are in all there glory.
Happy Easter everyone.

Long walks and big steps

Hi all I have been up since 5.15 this morning but the sunshine is so gorgeous I wouldn't have it any other way. Sammy and I have been on our early morning jaunt, we saw a roe deer ( we see him every morning) and our first baby lambs of the year. Sammy has been taking a reserved interest in the field of expectant ewes for the last couple of weeks and this morning we were delighted to see two gorgeous little lamb twins snuggled up with mum. We are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful area.
Can you believe we are almost in April the year has flown by and Easter is nearly upon us. My eldest will be starting High school after the summer break and so the last term of P7 will be spent in preparation for the transfer. Everything is going at a hundred miles an hour. I am so aware of this big step that I am trying to savour the time. We talked about year books and end of term dances (I might have a dress to make for this) and also how she feels about moving on. I think its me that needs more preparation than she does.
Is it Spring where you are I do hope so.
Happy Thursday

Lego wallets

Hello all let me introduce my all new lego wallet. I made this for my boys ( I will be adding it to their Easter baskets) they just love lego both the figures and the bricks and so to allow us to take some with us when we are out and about waiting for their sisters to finish dance class or when we are in the car. This is what I came up with. I have also added an extra pocket to store playing cards as my youngest loves snap. The older is into swap cards so these can be stored in there also. I am really pleased how it turned out and can't wait to see their reaction. I have listed one in my shop to test the water and if all goes well I would like to make quite a few more.
What have you been making for easter?
Happy Monday
