Fingers are still busy

Hi all, despite all the set backs this week ( there is always a silver lining to every cloud ) my fingers are busy working on my king size double irish chain quite that I am making and quilting by hand.  The slow and steading pull of my thread is a gentle and calming sound. It's a  time to reflect and look forward.  I have found myself wanting to rush to have it completed but am reminding myself that the process is as rewarding as the completed quilt.  I hope you have some silver in your day.

A Forced Breather

Hi everyone what a day I have had.  Last night my dog Sammy skidded across the floor of my sewing area and got himself under my sewing table.  He got a bit of a fright and charged out again taking both my beloved Bernina machines with him.  Thankfully Sammy was completely unhurt but both sewing machines are broken and will need to be repaired or replaced. This is going to coast thousands.  Normally this wood be a costly headache in Scotland where I had my trusty sewing engineer that I could send my machines to in Edinburgh but here in Guernsey it is turning into a logistical nightmare.  There is no reliable sewing machine engineer on the island and so I have to take the machines on the 3 hour ferry myself to the nearest bernina engineer and then collect them when they are fixed. So that's 4 x 3hs on the boat plus driving.   I have been exploring other options regarding borrowing a machine or indeed buying a very cheap and nasty machine, neither of these options are goers.  So as of the moment until I can sort this big mess out ( this may take a while) I will only be selling what I have in stock.

Missing craft fairs

I am missing filling in my application forms for all the fairs and events I normally take part in. There is nothing like the face to face contact you get with customers.  Where they can look and feel your products, talk to you about the creative process and give you feedback. I always learn so much at these events. I don't think Guernsey has any substantial craft fairs.  I have been considering doing the Country Living fair  ( I have done the Scottish fair which was wonderful but really exhausting) )but it is a logistical nightmare getting that much stock across to the mainland that I am not sure.  What should I do?

Latest Custom Quilt

Hi everyone its Monday again where did the weekend go?  in fact where did today go?  Quilting projects have taken over my order book at the moment.  I love the whole process from choosing the fabrics and pattern to hand stitching on the binding and everything in between ( except basting).
I thought now that I have shown my customer her quilt and she is delighted I can share some photos with you.  This quilt is a twin size I was a little daunted about the size but I just paced myself and it came together not to badly.

Granny square Finish

Hello all hope the start of the week is not too stressful for you all.  I finished my granny squares quilt over the weekend and I wanted to share it with you.  My only regret with this quilt is that I didn't make it bigger I am absolutely in love with it.  Hope you like it.

A Little Bit of Sunshine This Morning

Hello friends.  How is 2013 going for you?  Hope the snow has not been slowing you up too much.  Last friday we got 1 inch of snow on Guernsey and what chaos followed you would not believe.  If I had been able to sit and watch I would have been quite entertained but having children to get to school and shopping to do I had to join in the mayhem.  Thank goodness it has gone now.
I have been engrossed in my work and have found it difficult to come away for my sewing machine.  I love when this happens the hours just fly by.
I wanted to share one of my latest quilts with you and hope it fills your screen with sunshine.

Goals for 2013

Happy New Year everyone I hope it proves to being a healthy and creative one for us all.  I just love the New Year I think even better than Christmas.  Maybe thats the Scot in me I was brought up in a house hold where I was told often how the Scots had to work on Christmas as a day like any other until not that long ago. New Year was a time to celebrate.  Some stay up for the bells and have a jolly old time but for me I get up early so as not to miss a moment of the New Year.  I enjoy the quiet and thinking time.  My creative juices are flowing with ideas and projects I want to have a go at in 2013.  Number one on the list is to get to work on my double irish chain.  I finally unpacked it last night and have put in a couple of hours, boy do my fingers hurt after not quilting by hand in a few months.  I struggle to get a flow with it, having to pick it up and put away as and when I can fit it in around my business sewing and the sheer size of the task has me wondering if I will ever finnish it.
